And today, we're talking about Wang Jing, the master of trash, the schlockmeister extraordinaire,

and dare I say it, the man who is Hong Kong cinema? Yeah, I guess you could say that.

I mean, there is a sort of yin and yang of Hong Kong cinema in the 1990s, isn't there?

And both of them were named Wong.

Hmm.

Yes.

And one of them sought the other was an enemy.

And the other one probably didn't think of his opponent at all.

So on the one hand, you had Wong Karwai, an acclaimed international art house sensation,

someone who works very slowly, very methodically, whose films often do not meet with commercial

success at home.

And who I should point out, to people who don't know, did come up through the commercial

Hong Kong system,

co-writing such films as Haunted Cop Shop 2.

And then, on the other hand, is Wang Jing.

He makes movies on an assembly line.

He chases trends shamelessly.

His films are full of bathroom humor and mugging.

on 216, and an actor in 88.
