Hey, true crime besties, welcome back to an all new episode of serialously with me, Annie

0:32.2

Elise, and we have got an announcement.

0:34.7

There has been a verdict in the Karen Reed case.

0:38.5

It just came out about an hour ago, and let me break it all down for you. So it was a little wild because earlier

0:44.4

in the afternoon, the attorneys and the teams were called back to the courthouse saying that there

0:49.7

was a verdict, that the jury had knocked on the door that they said they reached a verdict but then before

0:54.8

everybody could even return to the courthouse they apparently knocked again and said they did not

0:59.6

have a verdict so everybody was like on standby i was live streaming on youtube at the time and

1:04.0

i was like what's going on do we have a verdict do we not was there like confusion did somebody

1:07.5

changed their mind then about 30 minutes went by and they came back with

1:11.7

the verdict. So she was found not guilty of murder too. She was found not guilty of manslaughter

1:19.4

and she was found not guilty of leaving the scene. However, she was found guilty of the surcharge

1:27.4

underneath manslaughter of an OUI, which in Massachusetts,

1:32.0

1:34.0

1:38.8

So she was found guilty of that.

1:40.7

When the judge asked about scheduling sentencing, both sides agreed they could do it right then and

1:45.6

there. And I personally was expecting the Commonwealth to try and go for the max sentence, just, you know,

1:51.6

to really like stick it to her to get the biggest sentence they possibly could since she was found

1:56.0

not guilty on the other charges. But to my surprise, their recommendation was one-year probation and classes,

2:03.1

which is apparently the standard for an OUI charge for first-time offenders. So perhaps that's why

2:10.4

it was recommended. Or maybe at that point, they were like, all right, she is found not guilty.
