When I was still living in Los Angeles, a friend of mine introduced me to the artist Tom Woodall.

Tom is best known for his intricate reflections of the Flower Ornament Sutra, a foundational

text of Hawaiian Buddhism.

His images are visually complex and full of symbolism.

Tom's work requires intense focus.

He wears jeweler's glasses to draw the hundreds of tiny little clover shapes that make up each

pedal of the flower.

It's fascinating to note that he maintains as much presence, concentration, and attention

to detail on the first clover as the last.

Tom talks candidly about his experience as a recent graduate of the Shenard Art

Institute in the early 70s and what the gallery world of Los Angeles of the
