Right, we'll start with this news that was breaking as I put yesterday's podcast out.

But now we have all the details of Volkswagen to close three factories and cut jobs in Germany. VW planning to close at least

three of its 10 production sites in Germany. At least, that could be more, potentially,

resulting in tens of thousands of job losses. That's according to Daniel Cavallo,

as the chair of the company's Works Council. This marks an historic first for the company, ending their 87-year

operation without a single plant closure in Germany. This decision is part of a larger strategy

aimed at reducing costs amid falling sales and rising competition from Chinese manufacturers.

Cavallo informed employees in Vulsberg that the plan involves reducing production

capacity at the remaining facilities and significant job cuts across all sectors. She cautioned that

none are safe, indicating that workers should not rely on their job security. Proposed measures may

include a 10% pay cut for employees who stay, a two-year wage freeze and the removal

of a monthly 167 euro allowance, which could lead to an overall pay reduction of 18%.

These restructuring plans follow Volkswagen's second profit warning in less than three months,

driven by weak demand in both the Chinese and European markets, and that is alongside the challenges
