This week, we're rewatching the 1995 classic Empire Records.

0:12.9

We're also doing a hot take debate about technological advances and we're bringing back our segment, Guilty Pleasure, Treasure.

0:21.9

So Empire Records is one of our formative movies that we watched a lot in high school.

0:30.8

It's up there for me with Clueless as just probably one of my most rewatched movies.

0:37.3

And last year, my husband got the

0:40.7

Criterion Channel and Empire Records was on there. So we rewatched it actually like last year,

0:47.2

pretty recently. I think we watched it last year too because we were watching it this week.

0:51.3

And we were both like, when did we watch this last? Because it was somewhat recent.

0:54.3

So anyway, it was probably then. It is one of those movies that I think you can rewatch an indefinite amount of times. It never gets old. It's just such a fun, cozy movie. And this is actually one of the movies that I would love to use for like a book like a this meets this premise like I think like Empire Records meets I don't know what else I love like the cozy group project plot where there's a lot of people working together and like just how their stories weave together I love it I love like a big cast of and especially like coming of age characters. I think it's great. And some of them are kind of like unlikely friends, but they're forced, you know, they have forced proximity because they all work at this record store. And you kind of watch them take care of one another in meaningful ways and then also like make fun of each other at times or like be kind of mean to each other at times.

1:49.4

Yes.

1:50.0

And that's pretty fun and interesting.

1:52.7

Yeah.

1:53.1

So my theory is you're always one character from Empire Records.

1:57.5

Which one do you think you are?

1:59.4

Oh.

2:00.5

I mean, in high school I was probably this sad girl. I'd never had to take a suicide, but I was probably her. Also, she's just kind of like alternative and I really wanted to be very punk rock. Emma did have an almost shaved head. I did. And I had a button maker. So there you go. You did. Probably after you saw this movie.

2:18.8

Yes.

2:19.4

Immediately after I saw this movie, I was like, I need a mudmaker.

2:22.2

I would want to be Deb, but I think I am Corey because I would be like trying to go for

2:30.2

something and then getting scared at the last minute, I think is very relatable to me.

2:35.8

So very relatable.
