Last week we ended with King Atholstand's aggression towards the kingdoms of Wales and Cornwall.

And we don't know precisely what occurred or why Atholstand demanded crippling tributes

from the Welsh and then violently expelled or executed the Cornish of Exeter.

But whatever the reason, Atholstand's actions echoed through history.

In fact, the Welsh border that was established at the River Y was still in place by the time

of the Norman Conquest.

Furthermore, the Welsh kings became members of Atholstand's court.

And the government of Dehybarth, under King Whole Thought, began to take on English and

thereby Carolingian methods of rule.

Whole's coinage took on an English appearance and even used Chester's mint to produce

his coins.

And actually, Whole even gave one of his sons an English name.
