Hello, my name's Justin the Kluid, I'm here today with

0:08.0

Well Sloan, and you're listening to The Important Cinema Club, and it's the yearly event

0:14.5

to start off a new, terrible-looking year.

0:18.0

We're talking about our five favorite movies, the best movies, Will.

0:24.8

So in many previous years, we used to do a top ten list and we used to do a countdown,

0:29.7

you know, 10, 9, 8, all that. And last year we hit upon, I think, a much better new formula,

0:35.1

where we say five movies from the year that we liked. They don't even

0:38.7

have to be the five best, just five movies that we really like that stuck with us, as well as our

0:44.3

five favorite or five of our favorite discoveries from last year, movies that we saw for the first

0:49.7

time. But I'm still going to put the best movies in the title of this episode because people click on that.

0:55.7

So if we fooled you, just keep listening.

0:58.1

You already hit play.

0:59.3

Why not just learn about what our five favorite films are?

1:02.3

That's right.

1:02.8

So do you want to start it right off the bat, Will?

1:05.4

How about we, like, move between both of them?

1:07.9

Let's each start with a movie that came out this year, because people

1:11.7

want to know if we have the correct taste, and then after we both say one, then we can move

1:16.6

on to discoveries, then new movie, then discoveries. We will get lost, I'm sure, but just to shake

1:21.6

things up a little bit. I think that's a great idea. And before we start, can I ask, what was your

1:25.9

impression of the last year in film? Do you have any overwhelming takeaways? Do you think it was a good year, a bad year? Well, you'll have to wait for my five to 10,000 word essay that I write every year about the state of the film industry. No, I don't know. I didn't really think too hard about it, but I'm sure you have, so what do you think, Will? No, I was hoping that you would thought about it. Um, no, I guess. I mean, there was a lot of good movies that came out this year. Like, making a top 10 list, it wasn't like last year where I struggled to just even get five that I really enjoyed. There were a lot of good movies. As usual. Many of the best movies were ones that, you know, weren't the most

2:03.5

popular movies. Sorry, that's such a banal thing to say, but it happens to be true and it's evergreen
