I'm so happy to be joined today by Sheena Chestnut Gritens.

She is an associate professor at the University of Texas

Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs.

She's also a non-resident senior fellow

at the Brookings Institution,

among many other impressive positions, credentials, and accolades.

I will not run through them now in the interest of time,

but you can look her up. She has a professional site and, of course, a personal site that's

worth checking out. She's an expert on East Asia, American National Security, and authoritarian

great on the China beat. I've really enjoyed following her feed. It's very insightful for a

today. So we're going to be talking about China and tech.

You have such a wide range of expertise here.

So again, I'm just so glad to have you on.

But let's first narrow down in on what sort of everybody talks about most, at least in my experience, in talking about China and tech these days,

which is China's social credit system.

As a non-expert, I'm really unclear on how far along that system is, how much it's actually

implemented on the ground if you're an average citizen in China.

Can you tell us what we know about that?
