holiday season here in America a week or so from Thanksgiving, six weeks until Christmas.

Halloween has come and gone, like birthdays and back to school weeks and everything else this

year.

And the pandemic and the quarantine have made them all a little more isolating.

Devastating loneliness has said in,

We are going to make it through, dear listeners,

but for now I am feeling the long haul of illness and the spread of disease and not being able to escape.

So one of the ways we manage as we wait for a vaccine or some kind of relief is to imagine better days, better days in the past and

better days in the future. Maybe this is why Mike and I are turning to literature and

why in particular our minds have turned to travel.

Traveling is such a huge part of my life, the feeling of being on the open road,

the feeling of going from point A to point B, meeting new people, experiencing new things,

and even just the daily routine of travel, the grind, the commuter train, the frequent achella.C. to New York.

All that is gone.

Now I go out once a week to make sure the car battery doesn't die.

And already I missed so many weeks at one stretch that the battery did die and I had to drag out the

jumper cables to start it up.

Which always makes me feel like kind of a guy's guy.
