Summary

How did Bangladesh separate from Pakistan in 1971? When did India and Pakistan go from sharing intelligence to being at the brink of nuclear war? Why did George Harrison from the Beatles organise a concert for Bangladesh? William and Anita are joined once again by Sam Dalrymple, author of Shattered Lands: Five Partitions And The Making of Modern Asia, to discuss the separation of Bangladesh from Pakistan in 1971. And I think we tend to imagine this as, you know, two nations

1:46.2

born from blood, each hating their sibling. But actually, one of the surprising things, I think,

1:52.6

to come out of the research that I did on this is quite how much both sides move to reconcile

1:58.8

after the UN broke a ceasefire.

2:01.7

So there's a lot of newly declassified intelligence files that have suddenly become available
