Hey everyone and welcome back to Big Mad True Crime where we get Big Mad over True Crime.

I'm your host Heather Ashley and today's case is out of St Paul Minnesota.

Small talk sucks so let's dive in. Heidi Ericsson was the kind of person who just brought joy everywhere she went.

She was fun, goofy, and really artistic.

She loves spending time outdoors, watching romantic comedies, and was known for her thoughtful crafts,

especially these handmade cards that she would fill with heartfelt messages.

Heidi was unapologetically excited about life. I mean, she saw the best in people and had this

positivity that was impossible to ignore. As a freshman in high school, Heidi met Nick Firkus, who was a junior at the youth group and the church

that both of their families attended.

They quickly became good friends, bonding over things like Bible studies and sports.

According to court documents, after Heidi graduated from Roseville Area High School in 2003,

she and Nick took their friendship to the next level and finally started dating.

Then on October 29, 2005, they got married.

With their adult lives just starting, Heidi took a job in administration at

Securian while Nick worked for his parents business doing things like

installing floors. Less than two years after their wedding, Heidi and Nick

achieved what so many couples dream of. They bought their first home

together located on the 1700 block of Minnehaha Avenue in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The multi-story home had three bedrooms, one and a half baths,

an enclosed front porch and a detached garage in the back.

The Firkus' home was great for a first home,

but after a few years, Heidi realized that it just wasn't the home she wanted to raise her eventual family in.
