As I'm recording this, I recently saw a tweet that tagged me by Gary Marcus, previous Mindscape guest, where he is retweeting a little

clip of an interview with Sam Altman, the CEO of Open AI, the AI company responsible for GPT and other various services, in which Altman says,

he doesn't make a firm prediction, but he asks us to imagine a day coming soon when you can just go to the

computer and say solve all of physics and it will be able to do it. Now both

Gary and also I if you have been listening to anything I have to say about AI,

do not think that that moment is anywhere near. It certainly doesn't really betray an intimate knowledge of how physics works or what you need to solve all of physics, which includes things like experimental input, not just a large language model, but you know, maybe someday, maybe not nearly, but

someday something like that could happen.

It's absolutely plausible that AI kinds of models might help us increase the pace of scientific progress.
