We're still going into that series, Stranger Than Fiction, and this one is a story.

This one, I was researching this, and it blew my mind, just all the twist and turns that

this one has. Also, just to set the standard here, this is a two-parter. So just go into it knowing

we're trying to knock out both parts tonight, but it is a two-parter. So if you're one of those who

likes to listen to it all at once, this is your

warning. Get it ready. Get it lined up because we are going to go ahead and jump in. So we're

going to start February 24th, 1986. 29-year-old Sherry Rasmussen is found dead inside the condo

that she shared with her husband, John Routon. She had been beaten

and shot three times and it's brutal. It's very shocking. And immediately, the Los Angeles

Police Department chocks it up to a burglary gone wrong. No suspects, nothing solid to go on.

And the case just stalls. But Sherry's dad,

he never really buys the burglary story. He keeps telling the police, you need to look at someone,

and he had a specific someone in mind, and that was Stephanie Lazarus. Now, Stephanie Lazarus was not just anyone.

She was actually an LAPD officer who had once dated John. All right, so we're going to go back to the 1970s in their early 1980s. John is a mechanical engineering student at UCLA.

Stephanie Lazarus lived in the same dorms.

Stephanie played basketball and had a really big crush on John.

Way more than what he had on her.

Even her friend group noticed it.

According to later accounts and reporting, she'd do things like Stillers Clothes
