Welcome back to the evolution of horror. My name is Mike Munter and as ever I am your host. In this podcast,

usually we explore and dissect the history and the evolution of the horror genre, one subgenre

at a time. We are currently in the midst of a little hiatus. Our previous season on Nature Bites back

ended a few months ago and we'll be back next month to kick off our 11th season

on man-made monsters. But this week we're bringing you a little bonus episode to celebrate the

release of 28 years later. Oh my God. Now, it's been not quite 28 years. It's been 23 years since

the original 28 days later written by Alex Garland and Danny Boyle.

That was 2002. It was followed up by a sequel, 28 weeks later in 2007. And we have not returned to the world of 28 days slash weeks since 2007.

It's been, what, 18 years?

That's insane and terrifying.

But very excitingly, there is a brand new movie out this weekend.

And more excitingly than that, Danny Boyle is back to direct it.

Alex Garland is back to write it. I had the pleasure of seeing the film last week.

So what you're about to hear is a, first of all,

a spoiler-free discussion with my guest about the movie, just discussing our broad, overall thoughts

on the franchise as a whole. Then you're going to hear my interview with writer Alex Garland

and director Danny Boyle, a completely spoiler-free interview. Then after that,

you're going to hear a spoilerific discussion in which me and my guest get into the nitty-gritty

and discuss all elements of the plots up to and including the end in depth. So I sat down with
