Hi, I'm John Joseph Adams. I'm the editor of several anthologies such as Wastelands

and The Living Dead. My latest book is Brave New Worlds, an anthology of

dystopian fiction, and other recent books include The Way of the Wizard and The Living Dead

too. And I'm also the editor of the magazine's Fantasy and Lightspeed.

And I'm David Barr Hurley.

My short fiction appears in books such as new voices in science fiction and fantasy the best of year.

And my newest stories are Cats and Victory in Lightspeed, The Skullface City in the Living Dead too, and Family Tree in the Way of the Wizard. And today on the show we'll be interviewing Jennifer Finney Boileen, author of the new middle grade fantasy novel Falcon Quinn in the Black Mirror.

Jenny is also the author of She's Not There, one of the first best-selling memoirs by a

Transgender American.

She's made numerous TV appearances, including the Oprah Winfrey Show, Larry King Live, and the Today Show.

And she teaches English and Creative Writing at Colby College, where she was named Professor of the Year in 2000,

and where I was lucky enough to study with her.

Hi there, how are you?

So first of all, in your memoir, she's not not there you talk about a childhood game called

Girl Planet could you tell us about that? Well sure as a transgender person when I was a kid I really didn't know what was wrong with me you know I had

the sense of myself as not belonging one of the things that I I did when I was a child was I would go across the street to

this big forest in Pennsylvania where I grew up and I kind of walked through this forest and you know I'd play this game where you know that I was an astronaut
