Summary

PAX East! Truly the highlight of everyone’s July!

For whatever reason, it’s taken us absolutely ages to get round to covering the board games that we played at PAX East - but better late than never! This is especially true in this pod right here, where we’ve got three hot servings of board game to ladle directly into the laps of our ravenous listenership. We’ve got a starter and dessert made of space - with Galileo Galilei and Moon Colony Bloodbath protecting a gooey fantasy center all made of Lord of the Rings: Fate of the Fellowship!

Have a great weekend, everybody!

Hello everybody and welcome to the very latest episode of the Shut Up and Sit Down podcast, a podcast about board games, board games and the people who love board games. I'm joined as ever by Matthew Lees. Hello.

0:21.3

And I am Tom Brewster. Yes, you are. And we're going to talk about the games that we played at Pax East. Wow, Pax East. For those you don't know, this was a board game event that happened just the other day. It's mostly a video game event. So we're wrong on two counts because it also happened like a full month ago. Shut up, Tom. It wasn't.

0:37.6

It was just the other day, which is why it makes sense that we're talking about these games now. Nothing like the present. We had a very exciting time at Pax East. We did some live shows. We did. We played some video games. We did. Because it's primarily a video game convention. But it has a big tabletop area. It does. It has a very big tabletop area. And also, like, you know, it's been a long time. I used to be a video game journalist. It's been a long time since I'd been to a video game but also been a long time since I remembered the, the weirdness of playing a video game in a loud hall while standing up. Freaky. It's very strange. And it made me realize, like, I didn't like doing this when they had to do it for work.

0:54.9

Yeah. Why do people do it for fun? That's strange. That's why board games have the upper hand in terms of conventions because it's quite hard to play them standing up, although all play are trying. Yes. They make you stand up at their stall and I won't have it. On this podcast,

1:28.7

we're going to talk about our favorite games that we played at Pax East. And we can talk

1:33.9

about three of them. There were more games we played at Pax East, but we're going to give you our top

1:37.1

three in rising order of excitement. First, we're going to talk about Galileo Galilei. Take me home. A game about

1:45.5

keeping inquisitors in your basement and trying to look at the stars. It's a classic Friday night

1:51.7

for me. And then we're going to talk about Lord of the Rings fate of the fellowship. Yep. I'm

1:58.4

pretty sure that's right, Tom. I mean, as I've said to people, whenever it comes now to like remembering the names of Lord the Rings baseball games, it's impossible. Yeah, you didn't see me there look at my phone incredibly quizzically, trying to be like, is this the right name for this game? You scrunched your face up real good. But I got it. And I knew you got it because at the moment I've just moved into a new place. And my, my pantry currently is, uh, is Lord of the Rings fate of the fellowship. It's a bottle of apple and pear squash, some sun cream and, uh, Lord the Rings fate of the Fellowship. You'll live in the high life. It's everything a growing lad needs. It's, uh, and I think there might be some bananas in there

2:34.2

as well, but I'm keeping them well away from the board games because I've had my lesson learnt on

2:38.2

me when it comes to board games and bananas. Yeah. Two do not mix. Did you disintegrate a banana and

2:43.8

a neoprene mat at the same time? Yes, although the neoprene mat did recover, um, miraculously. The banana did

2:50.4

not. Um, but it's But it's a fascinating scientific experiment.

2:54.8

But don't do it. And finally, on this podcast, we're going to talk about our favoriteest game of Pax East.

3:01.5

Moon Colony Bloodbath. A game about having a really bad time on the moon.

3:07.7

Yeah, it's like an engine, it's a card game that's an engine build and builder.

3:12.8

Save it, Matt.

3:13.7

Save it for the later in the pod.

3:16.0

Okay, bye.

3:18.5

First of up on this podcast, we're going to talk about Galileo Galilei.

3:22.6
