to the area, seeking to alleviate property and overcrowding in Ireland. This event marked the beginning of what would become a

thriving community initially known as Scots Plains but later renamed Peterborough in honor

of Robinson's efforts. Throughout the 19th century Peterborough grew

rapidly driven by its strategic location on the waterways and its proximity to rich
