title for a podcast this one because this is Ed Axel described by the

Guardian as Britain's greatest living anti-comedian and I've described into other guests on this show in the past,

as being like Tommy Cooper but for jokes. In the same way that Tommy Cooper would, he was a magician

who whose magic would deliberately go wrong and seem out of control even though he knew what he was doing.

Ed I've always said is similar but for the art of telling jokes and performing stand-up comedy.

He appears not to know what he's doing. He knows exactly what he's doing. It's absolutely breathtaking and

not always the easiest to get into and I have been to shows that Ed's done where you can see that some people are not understanding the finesse

They're not familiar enough with the codes and conventions of comedy that he is playing with

But then at the same time there is a strong clowning element to what he does.

We're going to talk about all of these things and indeed how he is even more reliable in his absurdity these days,

and we're going to talk about all of that in just a moment.
