I found this passage from an old journal.

It's interesting.

It's probably 20 years old.

I just dug it up the other day.

It fell off a shelf and I picked it up and was looking at it.

It says, if the essential struggle of our age

is to regain control over self-perpetuating systems,

and then in parentheses, I wrote governments, religions, corporations.

Then we must understand that our resistance cannot feed into the dynamic

of the systems we're trying to weaken and control.

Hence, we cannot buy our way out of consumerism

or simply increase efficiency as a way to reduce energy consumption.
