Lent is almost here.

Can you believe it?

I feel like the year is just going by so fast.

It's Ash Wednesday is tomorrow.

It's going to be lent, then Easter, then Christmas, then my kids are going to go to college

before I know it even though they're barely getting into kindergarten right now.

Time is just flying, but we can take a minute and slow down and talk about it here on the

Council of Trend Podcast.

I'm your host, Catholic Answers Apologist and Speaker, Trent Horn.

And I thought a great way to kick off Lent.

Well, today is Fat Tuesday.

So instead of gorging on meats and cheeses and eggs and all kinds of delicious things,

because in the middle ages, the Lent and Fast was actually a lot more than just giving

up meat on Fridays.

What's even just giving up meat entirely through Lent?

It was giving up nearly all animal products.

And so that's why in many Eastern churches today, there are people who will still follow

the traditional fast and they will fast, not just from meat but from any animal product.

So no dairy, no cheeses.

And so that's why you would get through all the cheese and dairy and meat and everything

you could today before you entered into Lent or the Great Fast.
