Summary

There are so many things I want to scream out of rage and disillusionment right now. But that is not what is most productive. What is most productive is being an intentional part of the solution. The solution is to dismantle rape culture. And it starts HERE. It starts with how we are raising our boys. Now. Today. It starts with the conversations you’re having with your sons and the behavior you’re modeling. Is it a big undertaking? Yes. Can we do it? Yes. In this episode, I explain the exact (science/research based) parenting my husband and I are committed to because we are committed to not raising a rapist. If I had a daughter, I would want to know that every boy, young man, and the older man she was in contact with understood and valued these guiding principles. 0:55.1	going to dive right into it. So how do you raise your son to not be a rapist? If you don't want
1:01.0	your son to become a bully or a predator or a rapist, you have a lot more to do than teaching
1:05.2	them about kindness and consent. You start as soon as you can, like today, helping them to develop their emotional intelligence.
1:13.0	You teach them how to practice empathy and compassion.
1:16.0	You teach them how to show emotion and you teach them how to openly express sadness, fear, anger, and disappointment.
1:22.8	You teach them this through conversation and through modeling.
1:26.4	This means that when your son knocks someone over
1:28.6	at the park or on the playground or in the middle of soccer practice, you tell him to go over
1:32.7	and ask that person if they're okay and help them get up. It means that when you walk past a panhandler
1:37.8	on the street, instead of mumbling that that person needs to go get a job, you say to your son,
1:42.3	I wonder if they're cold. Let's go get them some coffee.
1:45.8	It means that when your son accidentally hurt someone with their words or their body, you teach
