Summary

Are you mindful of how much waste you are producing?

We've been pretty good about our consumption and how we manage our waste. But... after our recent interview with Sarah Wilson, we realized we had some serious room for improvement.

This week we're discussing how we currently manage our waste and strategies we plan on implementing in the near future.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • Composting solutions
  • Making bone broth with veggie scraps
  • Food storage in glass
  • Reusing bags by washing them out
  • Using up every last scrap in the fridge before travelling
  • Storing produce properly to extend its life
  • Gifting packaged food to friends and family before they expire
  • Reusing eco parchment paper
  • Bringing a reusable cup to the coffee shop
  • Condense garbages to save on bags
  • Use what you already have when wrapping gifts
  • Find bulk soap and shampoo
  • Using cloth napkins
  • Being mindful of online and offline purchasing

0:23.9

something that we're passionate about and this week's topic is all around

0:27.0

managing our waste. We are totally inspired by our conversation with Sarah

0:31.5

Wilson. She always brings a good conversation to our podcast,

0:35.0

but this one being focused on food waste and waste in general

0:38.0

is something that is not only new to our podcast,

0:41.0

and it's not new to Jesse and myself we certainly take action in the

0:45.7

realm of waste in our life but this is something that we're really gonna amp up and

0:49.6

take to the next level. Yeah we were totally inspired by Sarah and we learned that we're

0:54.4

doing pretty good when it comes to waste in general but there's definitely some

0:58.5

steps we're going to work on. We're going to do this together as a team and one of the areas we really want to embrace is composting.

And recently, Marnie and I started making celery juice in the morning.

We're not doing it each and every morning, but most mornings, and this has been new in our routine for about

a week and a half, two weeks now, and that produces quite a bit of pulp when we make that juice.

We make enough for a good-sized glass for for each of us and what we've been doing with that is actually

bringing it out to our raised bed gardens and sprinkling it across the top. So we're heading into the cold winter months right now. We're already kind of there.

The weather's been a little back and forth. But what we're trying to do is throw our compost in the meantime on top of the garden.
