Today we are discussing the story that’s taken over TikTok about Kendra, the woman who fell in love with her psychiatrist. In her 25+ part series, Kendra recounts what she describes as a toxic relationship with her psychiatrist, claiming that he had used his position of power and his mental health education to manipulate her into falling in love with him and unethically choosing not to transfer her to the care of another doctor. While there are a lot of opinions swirling around on the internet in response to this viral series, the vast majority seem to have come to the same consensus: that Kendra isn’t coming across as the most reliable narrator. Things only escalate more when she begins going live regularly and speaking to her subscribers which have now adopted the name “The Gloricles” in reference to her now infamous nickname “The Oracle,” which she claims was given to her by her AI chat bot.

Hello, everyone, and welcome back to Do We Know Them? Episode 270. We made it into the 70s.

0:08.1

Correct. And boy, do we have the episode that has been being requested quite a bit.

0:14.4

Yeah, my God, we honestly don't even have time to have much of an intro. So if you're one of those people that likes to hear us ramble today,

0:24.2

I mean, we'll ramble throughout the episode, but just today is not the day for a long intro.

0:37.5

We have so much ground to cover. And this is kind of like a lily deep dive, but also usually when your deep dives happen, it's because I'm not aware of the topic and then I'm just learning about it. No, I'm knee-deep in this. I know all of this. I've seen it all on my for you page.

1:55.0

We've been sending it to each other for weeks. We've been here. Okay? So we've got a lot to cover. Less of a deep dive and more of, um, uh, compilation. Condense. Condensement. Yeah, we're trying. Kendra Hilty, who is on TikTok and has gone viral because of her story about falling in love with her psychiatrist. But not just that she fell in love with her psychiatrist. It's that he made her fall in love with him. And if you haven't heard of her, give me your for you page. You're not on TikTok. Yeah. Yeah. You must not have a app. It is genuinely everything on my free you page. Same. And also, when we first started watching it, there was like 20,000 views a video. And I remember even saying at one point, I think it's crazy. This doesn't have more views. Now, every single one of them, millions. Yeah, it's crazy. And there's 25.5. But there's actually, it's closer like, I think there's like 33 because she started with like a handful of them before it like got to part one. And then there's like random point fives that she throws in there. And then we also hear from a couple other people. Yeah, luckily we caught her on a break. So she's not actively posting right now. So we can almost just like breathe enough to be able to cover it without her continuously putting out apart every day. This is obviously going to discuss mental health, just like the scope of like somebody who may not be in their best mental state is doing something very interesting online. And that's always a tricky thing to cover.

1:56.0

But this one does feel cover like worthy.

1:59.0

It just feels like we kind of have to. It is kind of a tricky territory because it, like, worthy. It just feels like we kind of have to.

2:07.3

It is kind of a tricky territory because it's like, yes, there's mental health crises that people, crises, whatever, that people go through, but also there's consequences to actions.

2:14.3

And then I think social media just amplifies everything in numerous ways. So the whole thing has just been a complete disaster. Yeah. It's a shit show. Yeah, it's been people can't look away. It's like a car accident. Yeah. There's over two hours worth of her videos. I condensed it and I pray that, you know, sometimes when you watch things fast and you

2:35.4

get used to it and then it doesn't seem that fast anymore. Yeah. I'm hoping that it's not too fast,

2:40.5

but I could slow it down if it is. But I spat everything up a decent amount and then I also

2:45.7

have cut out chunks or like if she repeats herself or she does a lot of dramatic pauses sometimes. So I've gotten it trimmed way down. Yeah. It's still long though. So that's what we're going to be reacting to the entire episode. And then we'll be chiming in with some commentary and stuff throughout and then also introducing a couple other characters. Godspeed. I think we should just let her get started. Yeah. I fell in love with my psychiatrist and he knew that and he kept me for years as a patient until I was brave enough to leave him. Usually when I go on this app and I have a question, I have a bunch of videos that pop up and I searched in love with my psychiatrist and nothing happened. So I would really like to discuss what happens when we fall in love with our mental health professionals And most importantly, the fact that there are so many people, especially men, that are emotionally dead inside, that feel called to going into psychiatry and therapy. So they don't have to feel their feelings, but they can feed off of the vulnerability of their mostly female patients. Sorry to stop so soon. Oh, no. Bad start, really. What were your thoughts when you first saw this? Because we were watching in real time. So it's like, I think we first saw it when there was only like three videos.

3:43.7

Yeah.

3:44.2

I mean, when I first heard her talking about this, I think I was like definitely a bit taken

3:49.0

back by the falling in love with him aspect.

3:51.7

But I also, this particular aspect of her saying men in the field and feeling emotionally dead and all this stuff.

3:59.4

I have had a lot of negative interactions with therapists and psychiatrists, which by the way,

4:05.2

there is a difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist.

4:08.3

That's very important here.

4:09.7

A psychiatrist is the person that you meet once every 90 days, every six months, depending on your regimen. And they meet you to prescribe medication to monitor you. But I will say every psychiatrist I've ever had, I'm like, do you even know my name? Like, do you even, it's not talk therapy. They literally know nothing about me. They'll ask like one or two questions and then be on their merry way. I've always felt it to be very disconnected. So I didn't know if that's what she was referring to of like just like they're not interested disconnected. But that's not how she describes him necessarily throughout it. She kind of feels like emotionally he was a little too connected is how she puts it. But I thought that's what she was talking about at first. I was kind of on the train for a little bit. I was like, okay, girl, I could hear you. I feel like when I first watched it. I was like, I'm intrigued. Go on. But also watching it back now, having seen the whole thing, I do think it's a little, she says that like, that's why these men are getting into psychiatry is because apparently they're dead inside and they want to feed off the vulnerability

5:04.2

of their mostly female patients. Like it's a bit intense of a statement. And that alone, I was like
