Hello, Mortified listeners, it is David, and I want to tell you, as the year is wrapping up, one of my favorite things to do at this time of year is actually to check out the fundraiser channel in our Radiotopia Slack channel, because

it shows when someone has donated to the fall fundraiser and shows and sending messages they've

sent along with their donations, such as this one from a listener named Alan, who after donating,

wrote, thank you for all your incredible work, just a small token which can never meet the value that Radiotopia brings.

And man, if Radiotopia could run on these messages alone, we would never do a fundraiser again.

Unfortunately, that is not how the world works.

And to be candid, it has been a very tough year asking people for money, and we get it. But let me say

this. It is a really tough time for independent media and independent podcasts. And Radiotopia is a

place, maybe the place, where it is possible for independent creators to have control over their projects. This incredible community

of shows like not just Mortified, but Song Exploder and the Memory Palace and Ear Hustle

and normal gossip, et cetera, et cetera, all these great shows. That community wouldn't exist
