Hello and welcome to Mini Episode 269 of Real Life Goal Stories and I have a

four spooky stories for you today and the last story comes from the 17th of February 2023

and story number one comes from Katie. I was no more than five when this happened so I don't

remember it clearly but this is how my parents told me the story. We had just gotten home for my

grandparents and my dad went to check the messages on the answering machine. The only one on the

machine was for my best friend Amanda to my mother. My dad had to listen to the message a couple of

times as it was sort of garbled and hard to understand but eventually he figured it out that it

said, hi Terry this is Amanda Cole Debbie. He relayed this to my mom who immediately called Debbie

who was Amanda's mother and a good friend of my mom's. Debbie was surprised and a little confused

by the call. She said she had been thinking of calling my mom to talk through some difficulties

she was having in her marriage but neither she nor Amanda had actually called. Of course this

was bizarre because if they had never called how could there have been a message from Amanda on

our answering machine. When my mom got off the phone she went to the machine to listen to the

message to see if that would clear up the confusion but instead of the message from Amanda it was

now a message from my mom's older sister. The message from Amanda was just gone even though my

dad had not deleted it. Furthermore the message from my aunt had not been there when he had checked

the message initially nor had she called in the meantime. It was like my aunt's message had somehow

replaced the one my dad had heard. This happened in the very early 1990s back when the answering machines

still had physical tapes so I suppose it's possible that a piece of an old message just got

jumbled up or the tape was damaged and that's what my dad had heard. But then where did it go

and how did the new message get there and if it was a mechanical glitch how was it that it happened

at the perfect time when Debbie needed to talk to my mom. I love this story and I love stories of
