Hello and welcome to a very special edition of Mormon Stories podcast.

I'm your host John DeLin. Today we bring to you something very special.

We are re-broadcasting a presentation from the 1995 Salt Lake Sunstone Symposium called

the Church Years, Michael Quinn History, and the Mormon World View. We're bringing this to you

for a few reasons. First of all, this weekend is the Sunstone Symposium in Salt Lake City,

and we want to make sure and encourage those of you who are interested to come by Sunstone,

it's at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, and check out what Sunstone does, or to subscribe

to Sunstone Magazine at Sunstonemagazine.com. Sunstone is an amazing organization with amazing

rich history, and you all should know about it. Secondly, we're doing this presentation because

my buddy Aaron Brown asked me two several months ago. I Aaron, how's it going? That's a quick shout out.

And finally, the real main reason we're doing this presentation is because next week in Salt Lake,

we are hosting Michael Quinn for a very important, let's just say, Mormon Stories interview.

I'm going to be interviewing Michael Quinn in front of a live audience, again in Salt Lake City,

and I've just found out that many of you don't know who he is. And so just briefly, you'll find out

from this whole presentation who he is. But Michael Quinn was a very important LDS church

historian in the 70s and 80s and 90s. He was there during the Camelot years when Leonard Errington

was trying to open up church history to the world at the request of the church leaders.

He wrote several important books on Mormonism, including early Mormonism in the Magic World view,

which was very, very important in helping to explore Joseph Smith's use of peepstones and

folk magic. But he also wrote two volumes in the Mormon hierarchy series, which talk all about power

and church dynamics, both in the 1800s and more recently. He published a book called Same Sex

Dynamics among 19th century Americans, a Mormon example. He's just done a ton of amazing work. He
