And I hope that this will maybe connect some dots with some hunters out there listening

that have had different experiences. They've had animals that they've shot that just

immediately, you know, they were down in their tracks dead and they've had animals that have ran

50 yards, you know, and there's a difference there. Why did this one die immediately? Why did

this one run 50 yards?

Welcome to the podcast today. This is episode number 267. If we back up to the fundamentals

as hunters, we have a responsibility to make a quick ethical and clean kill for the game we're hunting.

But sometimes things don't always go that well. Sometimes whether you're hunting with a rifle

or hunting with a bow, the animal doesn't die as quickly or as cleanly as we'd like. And we don't

necessarily always understand why. Sometimes we feel like we make a good shot. Sometimes we do

place that projectile in the vitals. But the animal goes, it flees and we find ourselves with a

little bit of work to do tracking that animal. Today in this episode, we're speaking with

Jaden Quintlin, who is the lead ballastician at Hornady. And we're not necessarily talking about

bullets in projectile design, although we touch on that later in the episode and we might talk

about that more in the future. But this episode, the goal of this episode and the foundation is to

really talk about how do animals die? Like what in their system, what in their anatomy

causes death? And how can we as hunters affect those systems? So this is kind of like a base

foundation, which I really appreciate. Because a lot of times we just hear of, oh, I hit it in the

vitals. And we say that, but we don't really necessarily know what that means or even understand

that that can mean different things. The vitals isn't a thing. It's comprised of multiple

systems in that animal that can affect its livelihood. And so that's what we dive into today.
