From the outside, the house looked like just another villa on the beach on St. Thomas Island,

part of the US Virgin Islands, a tropical paradise full of palm trees and white sandy beaches,

where the weather pretty much stays between 70 and 90 degrees year-round. A popular Caribbean cruise

ship destination full of time shares, luxury resorts, banana dacqueries, rum punch and vacation

rentals. But this one villa, this villa didn't really have anything to do with island life or

0:24.2

vacations. This villa was all about science. Kind of, weird science. Really, really, really weird

0:32.3

science. On the inside, the villa was home to the Dolphin Point Laboratory, a project born out of

0:37.5

the mind of Dr. John C. Lilly, one of the most polarizing figures in American scientific history.

0:42.7

Lilly was a highly educated and accomplished man, a medic, neurologist, inventor. He was a man

with some very lofty goals. A man with some very interesting beliefs, leaves some other people in

believes others thought were completely batchy crazy. Before creating his Dolphin Point laboratory,

1:03.6

Lilly had become obsessed with trying to communicate with highly intelligent extra-trestrials.

1:07.4

He felt would be landing on earth at any moment. Extra-trestrials, he already believed were

1:12.4

communicating with him subconsciously. Most of the while, he floated in a sensory deprivation chamber,

1:17.2

guiding his life in ways they didn't always make explicitly clear. And Lilly got it in his head,

1:22.1

that the advanced communication abilities of Dolphins, which he thought may include telepathy,

1:26.8

if properly and thoroughly unlocked, could then unlock humanity's ability to

1:31.5

converse with visiting alien life forms. He wanted to bridge the so-called communication gap

1:36.4

between humans and animals. And to do that, he'd use his house in St. Thomas, along with some

1:41.2

NASA money. The conduct and experiment that started off as crazy and quickly spiraled into giving

1:46.8

a dolphin hand jobs and letting the Dolphin dry hump a human-live-in-assistant researcher.
