Welcome to the GitFit Guys' quick and dirty tips to slim down and shape up.

My name is Ben Greenfield. I'm the Get Fit Guy, and in today's episode, you're going to learn about

0:13.4

three exercise trends that may actually be bad for you, even though you thought they were good

0:18.9

for you. Now, I recently read a fantastic book

0:22.8

by a guy named Jeff Wilser, and the book is called The Good News About What's Bad for You,

0:27.5

the Bad News About What's Good for You. This book is chockful of pretty shocking advice that goes

0:32.8

way against the grain, like eat more steak, drink more whiskey, take more naps, lay off all the kale,

0:38.6

and throw out all your multivitamins and your standing desk. But don't throw out your very desk

1:20.1

to say about a few of these fitness topics. Let's start with ball chairs. You've no doubt seen

1:25.7

them before, those giant exercise balls that folks

1:28.4

perch on at the office or the personal trainer sits on at the gym to enhance core activation

1:33.6

or to burn more calories. But Jeff interviews an expert who says that research studies show

1:38.3

these things don't actually engage your core any more than a chair does. And they can actually

1:43.4

increase compression on your low back

1:45.3

and definitely don't burn more calories or improve your posture. So my take? Well, I completely

1:51.6

agree. And I actually cringe every time I see someone destroying their posture by slouching
