She just returned from a Mexican Riviera cruise on Carnival Inspiration. We'll get her review coming up a little later on in the program. But first, as always, Stuart, you're on the cruise guy. 0:54.5 | Good man, jumping ride to it. Royal Caribbean is busy over there in Europe, cutting steel for a third ship and getting Quantum of the Seas ready. So let's talk about Quantum of the Seas first. What's the latest with that? Well, the latest is that Friday she is doing the conveyance, which means that they were going to turn that ship around and back her out of the shipyard and into the River M's, which has been in the flooding process for the past two weeks. |
1:20.8 | So starting on Friday, weather permitting, quantum of the seas will become the world's largest riverboat in history. |
1:29.5 | At 167,800 tons, she will travel about 25 miles from Poppenburg, going backwards, heading north to Annshaven in the Netherlands, where she will be completely finished up there. |
1:46.6 | They'll load a lot of some additional heavy stuff, finish the ship off. |
1:51.2 | You know, she'll do a couple days of sea trials. |
1:53.5 | And then, you know, by the end of October, she's going to be on her way to Southampton. |
1:58.6 | You mentioned the river is going through a flooding process. |
2:01.1 | Is that normal? |
2:02.5 | It is when the shipyard is sending a ship up the river. |
2:07.7 | They have to flood it. |
2:09.6 | And so this way the water levels go higher because the depth of the ship is much greater than the river is deep at this time. And it's quite a process. |
2:21.3 | I mean, bridges are removed and it's a pretty neat experience, but it takes about 24 hours. |
2:28.2 | So what's the latest on Anthem of the Seas? |
2:30.0 | Well, Anthem is in the yard. They are in the process of completing, you know, just putting more and more decks, and they had a few more sections of the ship to complete and add to the ship, which, you know, will have some neat pictures, I think, over the next month or so. But it's hard to believe that ship is going to be setting sail in the spring of 15. |
