Summary

Whether Microsoft completes its acquisition of Activision or not, the FTC's legal assault on the company has nonetheless exposed Sony's archrival's strategy for all to see. Xbox's argument is a simple one: Thoroughly outclassed by their competitors with access to orders of magnitude fewer resources over a continuous period of more than two decades, their only way to compete is through brute force. Microsoft isn't wrong for acting like a corporation seeking profit. The bigger question is why anyone would root for them when they've shown little true feel for the business, as evidenced by their lack of success relative to their competition. We spend more than two hours going through all of the interesting tidbits from the FTC vs. Microsoft, not through the lens of whether the deal will go through, but via all the interesting information we've garnered through discovery, deposition, and testimony. We also spend more than an hour talking about our time (so far) with Final Fantasy XVI, which very easily slides into the Game of the Year category with its exceptional gameplay and riveting story. We bounce around to other news items, too, before leaving you -- as always -- with listener inquiries. How can PlayStation salvage the early-damaged reputations of Concord and Fairgames? Will there ever be a single-player FPS renaissance? Should increased dev time equal the end of gaming trilogies? Could Colin and Chris write a successful remake of Billy Joel's classic We Didn't Start the Fire? I'm my friend. I'm good. I'm well. Somebody, so I'm a big iced tea person, right? I have a big

1:18.8

Arizona iced tea guy and somebody sent me this. It's hard Arizona iced tea. I had no idea this was real.

I mean, either. Interesting. I haven't tried it yet. I'm a little scared. What's in it? Is it like a

gin or something? It's gonna be malt. Yeah, it's malt. It's a bit of a ritual. I thought it was like a

different kind of some sort. No, no, no. It's been sitting on my desk ominously. I don't know if I want to

1:45.8

recontextualize Arizona into an alcoholic binge. Totally. I love booze. It's not that I used to drink a lot,

but I just try to keep that stuff out of my life just because it's too easy. I've said this before,

in college, my friend gave me a few perk sets and I was like, this is wild. How easy this is. You

don't have to do anything. To her credit, I haven't talked to her in 15 years, but when I

grew up in it at the time, she's like, you got to not do this after a couple of days. I was like,

yeah, you're right. That was that. That's when I became a full-time podhead. Actually, I was already a
