Hey guys Charlotte here. I just wanted to chime in before we get started to let you know that this episode was recorded while Elizabeth Warren was still in the presidential race.

I'm so sad that she's no longer in the running but we were super inspired by her campaign and the extraordinary

black women that worked with her. We hope you enjoy the episode. Hopelessness is what

Donald Trump and right supremacy wants us to feel.

When I decided to go into politics 10 years ago,

I decided that I was going to go into politics as myself.

I'm not in politics because I want to work at the White House one day.

The politics that I do are reflected by and empowered by the poetry that I'm reading,

the literature that I'm writing, and the artist that I'm in conversation with.

You know, you don't have to ponder if you got to.

This is the secret lives of black women. I'm Charla and I'm Lauren and today we're talking about the election

for a lot of reasons because we're black women and we're one of the most important

electorates or I would say yeah we're pretty we're a pretty important electorate

for the Democratic Party. We are they don't act like it but we are. They don't know that.

At least they don't act like they know that, but we know for a fact that we are.

And this is a particularly uninspiring season for an election.

I feel like there's not a clear front runner nominee yet.

I feel like they've been in this forever.

I mean the field has been significantly narrowed at this point.

At this point.

But it has felt like a marathon for sure and it's off of the heels of a historically

disastrous dangerous election of 2016. Well yeah and that's when you know everything I feel like at that time
