I am Kat Angus, and this is the podcast about all the pop culture you love and hate simultaneously,

and we are closing out Erotic Thriller Month with what I consider to be the perfect conclusion to

this month, with 1998's Wild Things. I knew as soon as I saw this movie, I was like, so this is

what I wanted to do this month. Now it all makes sense. I really enjoyed this movie even with

all of its faults. Yes, don't be lie. I think this movie knows what it is. Yes, it is very

90s with its sensibilities about sex and gas, but lesbians. We talked about this a bit in our

disclosure episode. It absolutely has the female character being like, yeah, but women are liars.

It has all these elements to it, but it's having fun, and everybody is double crossing.

Everybody, it's very, very over the top and funny. It's so ridiculous, but knows it's ridiculous

that I kind of enjoy it. Have you ever seen this before, Jocelyn? I'd never seen it before.

This was a complete surprise to me from start to finish. I mean, but I do think what you say is

correct, though. It is a movie that knows it is trashy. And I'm not saying that to insult it.

Its goal is to be trashy. Its goal is to be complete and utter smut. To the extent that Kevin

Bacon said, when he read the screenplay, he was like, this is the trashiest thing I've ever read

in my entire life. I'm going to produce it. So at least it has, it has an awareness about itself.

I will say in terms of the beats of the plot, it is fundamentally indistinguishable from that one

episode of community where they keep doing the double crosses on each other. Absolutely.

But it extended to feature film length. And I can't tell who that's more of a burn on because

that episode of community was written in the middle of the night in a panicked fever dream.
