thanks for tuning in to let there be talk. This episode's brought to you by my fantastic sponsor, Earthquaker Devices. Handmade boutique stomp boxes right out of

0:28.9

Akron, Ohio, which I just saw they had some kind of Devo celebration going on this weekend. Earthquaker Devices, you're asking what the hell is that? What do I need that for?

0:39.9

Well, I'll tell you why. They're a family-owned business. They make the best boutique pedals in the world. If you play bass, guitar, keyboards, you're seeing anything. Get yourself some foot pedals. You want to sound fuckin' next level, you want to sound pro? You tired of lookin' rookie? Get a foot pedal.

1:02.9

Wow, wow, wow, wow. No foot pedals, no Jimmy Hendrix. No rock and metal, basically. Without foot pedals, man. You don't know what a foot pedal is. You're like, who are these people? They're the effects that make the guitar sound fuckin' great instead of just soundin' like, p-p-pink, p-pink, p-pink, p-pink, p-pink. Everything would just sound like dust in the wind.

1:32.9

But if you get a stomp box from Earthquaker, then it's like metal, metal, or whatever you want to sound, man. Jack White, he is King of the Pedals. Soundin' low, fine, cool. You want to be an alt hero? Visit earthquakeadvices.com or follow him on Instagram, Twitter, Fantastic.

I don't know about no rich little girl. Walking around like a papa got some money. I don't know about no rich little girl.

2:30.7

Walking around like a papa got some money.

2:34.7

Alright, how is everybody? Three-day weekend. Every three-day weekend. Or actually every Memorial Day weekend, I always talk about the US festival. And people go, oh, you're gonna talk about that again this year?

2:50.7

Hey, man, it was monumental in 1983. Some of the most insane bands got together. Steve Wozeneck, the Apple partner of Steve Jobs, decided to put on a super concert.

3:09.7

And it was his second year. I didn't go the first year 82. But it was the second year of doing it. It was insane. Let's just get a little bit of the rundown here. Just to give you a little taste of the lineup. Of course, I've talked about it over and over. But it was just insane.

3:30.7

You gotta think back to that time, man. They had the Rock Day, which was, they say, 333,000 people were there on the Rock Day.

3:41.7

It was of course Van Halen headlined and Scorpions, Judas Priest, Aussie, Motley Crew, Quiet Riot, Triumph. I don't really remember Triumph.

3:54.7

I must have been off getting crazy during Triumph. I mean, you gotta think about all the bands I saw on that day. Insane. The clash headlined day one. The clash.

4:11.7

Winding down. What was an insane career? It was crumbling all on that combat rock tour. And who else that day? Oh, stray cats. Minute work. Sunday. I bowie headlined. Thin white duke. It was his first time really back to touring.

4:35.7

I never knew this to recently, but I guess he hated to fly. Then he figured it out and said, fuck it. I'm flying. That's why his touring schedule was pretty light over the years before that. I guess he would bowed over to America and then ride around in a tour bus. But I never knew that.

4:56.7

And it could be not true. Anyway, it could be just some bullshit I read on the internet. But bowie headlined that day three. And also Stevie Nicks was there. You too. Joe Walsh played so many great bands missing persons. Walkin' in the lane.

5:15.7

Anyway, you can Wikipedia it. You can look at it on YouTube. That's the genius of YouTube, man. I just go back and relive that concert once in a while. I just fired up.

5:28.7

And the amount of egos and competition going on on that rock day must have been insane because each band just fucking win for it. Quiet riot. Just thrown on the bill last second like Rudy Sarza told on this show. Never even knew that.

5:49.7

Motley crew right before shout at the devil coming out with their kick ass new leather outfits. You got Judas Priests who absolutely murdered it in there. It was 104 degrees out or something. You know, priest up there in their summer leathers.

6:07.7

With electric guy just opening with the the hellian scorpions right when they go on the blue angels perfectly timed fly over the fucking audience.

6:20.7

And of course, mighty van Halen one of the worst performances ever. No one ever talks about it, but David Roth completely shit faced a really bumpy van Halen show.
