Summary

"I'm not afraid to have the uncomfortable conversations. Does it mean I feel comfortable? No! And I need my allies. I need my friends to say what I've been saying." —Alysia Montaño

Welcome to the first episode in a new four-part series, where I'll be talking with fellow running podcast hosts about how they view the current state of the running industry and their roles within it. We're kicking things off with Alysia Montaño, Molly Huddle, and Roisin McGettigan-Dumas, the hosts of Keeping Track! As current and former professional athletes, these three incredibly accomplished women offer a unique lens on the sport. They are mothers, businesswomen, authors, and important voices in running and beyond. On this episode, we talk about how Keeping Track came to fruition, and discuss representation in the running community.

I'm your host, Allie Feller, and I'm really excited about this new four-part series.

Every Monday for the next four weeks, I'll be having conversations with fellow running podcast hosts

about their work in the space.

0:28.4

We'll talk about their goals for their shows, the types of conversations they're pursuing,

0:32.4

and why their work is so important right now.

To give you a bit of context, I had a revelation of my own back in February when I was in Atlanta

0:40.4

for the Olympic marathon trials. I was there to watch and to do a few live shows not to run,

0:45.4

in case that needed to be specified. I came out of that weekend realizing that I do, in fact,

0:50.7

have more of a voice in the running community than I think I ever realized or intended to have.

0:56.3

I was really blown away by how many people came to Atlanta to watch the trials,

1:00.4

many reaching out to me saying they weren't there for a friend or a family member.

1:04.6

They were there because they felt like they knew so many runners from hearing them right here

on The Alley on the run show, which, whoa, it was the first time I really took a step back and

1:14.3

looked at this podcast as something more than a hobby, more than a career, more than my greatest

1:18.7

passion project. It's something that can have real impact. It's so cool. Then, when news of a

1:25.2

mod Arbery's death broke, it brought so much to light. For me, it made me really look at what I'm

1:30.5

doing here and how I can be better. You can hear more about that on episode 237 called A Message

1:36.9

and a Promise from Alley. I've spent a lot of time reflecting on where I've fallen short,

1:42.1

where I can be better, and so much of that has to do with representation and making sure the Alley
