Hello and welcome to another episode of On the Edge with Andrew Gold.

That second part describes very roughly who I am.

The first part describes very roughly what the podcast is about fringy edgy topics and today

I've got somebody who's well quite a fascinating and very intelligent eloquent speaker

Frida Visell, and she grew up in the Heradee community, the Hasidic

Jewish community in quite an extreme part of it.

And one of the reasons I wanted to get Frida on

is because I've done some episodes recently,

as you guys will probably be aware,

with Julia Hart, with Gavi Weisberger.

Ages ago there was one of Emily Green.

And these were women who left the Hasidic

or ultra-Orthodox community

and had obviously horrible, horrible experiences and a horrible slant on the whole thing and

understandably so they had really, really difficult situations and Frida also left so she didn't really enjoy it that much either I suppose

but she has a different perception and she really respects and admires parts of the community while criticizing others.

And I got so much criticism.

And this is the hard thing I suppose of being a podcast.

So you get so much criticism.

And then you've got to think, well well am I just getting criticism from people

because they're still in a cult you know or is some of it valid and I think there

are differences between things like you know Hasidic Judaism and extreme parts of religion
