The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step, so when we face the daunting

challenge of upping our game when it comes to congregational evangelism, it is a big challenge,

but it begins with small steps. Greetings and welcome back to Issues, etc. I'm Todd Wilken.

Joining us for part three of our series on evangelism will be talking about the basic steps

for congregations to take. Dr. Ken Sherr, he has a PhD in Church history from Ohio State University.

He's director of evangelism, missions, stewardship, and human care for the Central Illinois District

of the Lutheran Church Missouri Senate, formerly served as a theology professor at Concordia

University, Ann Arbor Michigan, and as an assistant to the President of the Lutheran Church

Missouri Senate. Ken, welcome back. Hey, Todd, all set in order to go here. At the congregational level,

Ken Christian congregations underestimate their city set on a hill status, the light that they can

shine. Well, they sure can. And I'm glad you use the metaphor of light. You remember that

kid song, this little gospel light of mine. It comes, of course, from what Jesus said in Matthew

five that Christians are the light of the world and that our light is to shine and not be hidden.

That's very simple and yet quite profound. And I would suggest that there are simple things,

relatively speaking, anyway, that our churches can do to shine the light of Christ. And those can

make a really profound impact. And that's what we're really going to focus on today.
