You may remember last week we left with David going into exile because his son, Absalom, had decided to take over.

He had been plotting this for at least four years, had undermined the king, and then made his move, and David fled with some people who were faithful to him, back into the wilderness.

2. Samuel 16. When David had gone a short distance beyond the summit, there was Ziba, the steward of Maphibisheth, waiting to meet him.

He had a string of donkeys saddled and loaded with 200 loaves of bread, a hundred cakes of raisins, a hundred cakes of figs, and a skin of wine.

The king asked Ziba, why have you brought these?

Ziba answered, The donkeys are for the king's household to ride on.

The bread and fruit are for the men to eat, and the wine is to refresh those who become exhausted in the wilderness.

all that belongs to Maphibusheth is now yours. I humbly bow, Ziba said. May I find favor in your eyes,

my lord the king. Now, for those of you who may have forgotten, Maphubesheth was a son of Jonathan

grandson of Saul, who David, after the death of Saul, and after he became king, after the civil War, he went out and he said, is there anyone
