0:00.0 | Hey, what's happening? Thanks for tuning into another episode of Let the Be Talk. It is Monday, May 23rd and I am coming to you live from the hut, the hut meeting my crib, my pad, my fucking, I don't know, whatever else. Where I stay, where I lay horizontal. |
0:21.5 | This episode is brought to you by Earthquaker Devices, the finest stomp boxes on the planet. And my, uh, what are they been, they've been my sponsor for over two years. Earthquaker Devices, they make incredible, incredible foot pedals for guitar, bass, keyboards, vocal, vocal, vocal, vocal, whatever you play, man, plug it in and sound like a damn god. |
0:47.5 | Get yourself a pitch bay, a terminal, a arrows, after-need, a tentacle, the depths, whatever you need, they've got it stomp on it and instantly get famous. |
0:59.5 | Well, I don't know, but you know, you can try, earthquakeerdevices.com, hand built in Akron, Ohio, hit them up earthquakeerdevices.com, get a shirt, get a curly cord, they got amps now. I can keep going on and on, but fucking do it. Get yourself a pedal and say, Delray sent me. |
1:29.5 | Stand, stand on the banks, looking out across the sea. |
1:41.5 | Oh, wait, man, that winded me, that intro, intro, intro. How is everybody? It's Monday and I hope you're having a great day. Got a killer guest today. Another rock and roller. You are going to love this girl. |
1:59.5 | If you think back to 2000, 2001, 2002, around there, rock and roll got like a fucking fierce jolt in the arm. Out of nowhere, rock was happening again. |
2:19.5 | You know, because we had that down, down time, people were hiding their leather jackets, their boots, you know, they weren't rocking. And then all of the sudden, bands like the strokes, yeah, yeah, yes. White stripes, Kings of Leon, inner pool. All these bands just fucking storm. They got jackets, they look cool, they play less balls, they turn up. |
2:48.5 | They fucking have great songs, all of a sudden there was a whole new thing. Oh, wow, rock is back. I love when people say rock is back, it's never fucking gone. You know, yeah, is it not like in the top 20? Who cares? Like I said over and over, when I first found rock. Only the, you know, only the cool kids listen to it. |
3:11.5 | What's the name said on almost famous? Hey man, I'm not cool. Definitely. I felt that was cool. I had my ACDC, my Ted Nugent, my fucking Boston Eagles, cheap trick, Van Halen, all that. I'm just fucking babbling crazy today. I love it. |
3:33.5 | But anyway, I really, really loved this era, 2001, 2003 of these bands that just were just like they created something, a full blonde scene, you know, and bands that came around after it. |
3:52.5 | Just a spill off of rock again, one of those bands that I remember quite well and completely forgot about until, you know, recently was Morningwood. |
4:06.5 | If you don't know Morningwood, get on iTunes and get their record right away. It's immediately, you put it on, you go, how come I don't know this band? |
4:20.5 | Where are you going to find out why? Here in a second. With my guest, Shantal Corrette, she was the lead singer of Morningwood and she was one of the cool kids of New York back in the day. |
4:33.5 | And she, this girl was at the ground zero, man. She was a club kid who booked clubs. She booked Strokes early on when she was like 16 years old. She was out drinking, doing cocaine, living the rock and roll fucking thing, which I love. |
4:50.5 | And an experience in life grabs a record deal with her band Morningwood, signs a huge deal, a major deal, and does a record with a major producer. And then poof, we don't know what happens. |
5:06.5 | She tells me what happens on this episode. And also she did not give up, she did not go away and hide. She's been working every since. |
5:19.5 | She puts out massive amounts of material. She's got cool EPs and solar records out. And she's also on the show Love right now on Netflix, which is fucking cool. |
5:34.5 | That's Judd Apital, man, you don't get any cooler than that. So this girl is working. She's been working for almost most of her life. And we get into a conversation of what happens when a couple artists just keep working and working. And then one day you're like, fuck, what? |
5:52.5 | You know, where do you go? What do you do? You just keep going. You just keep going. I realize doors closed. Other doors open. Shit looks bad. Then shit gets good. And you just stay positive and enjoy the ride. |
6:10.5 | That's what I'm doing. That is what I'm doing. I loved having her on. We had some great laughs. She's very honest and a full on rocker for sure. I don't even know how we met. I think it was Instagram or something. But I remember once I started talking to her, I was like, whoa, I used to have a crush on this girl. |
6:30.5 | hilarious. Sorry if you didn't, if you went to Reno and I wasn't there, I had a cancel. I got something fucked up with my neck. I don't know if it's a pinched nerve or if it's a pooled muscles or or something, something on my vocal core. |
