family of five older sisters, Josh began bodyboarding at the age of seven and surfing at the age of nine.

At age 11, Josh was devastated when his father unexpectedly passed away after suffering a heart

attack while windsurfing at Duranbaugh.

Josh continued surfing. He joined the Snapper Rocks Board Riders Club. He started doing contests

at age 14. He had really developed a repertoire and then a reputation for his aerial surfing.

The industry was embracing the public's interest in above-the-lip

surfing, and there was a series of air show events happening, and eventually a world tour of events

that crowned an air show world champion. In 2001, Josh dropped all of his junior series efforts,
