On this episode of the Swallier Pride podcast, we have Dr.

Kala Stipansik.

She is currently a postdoctoral researcher in the University of Buffalo Motor Speech

Disorders Lab in Buffalo, New York, and will be transitioning into an assistant professor

position there at the University of Buffalo in January. She received her

bachelor's degree in Speech Language Sciences at Brock University in Ontario, Canada,

her master's degree in Communicative Disorders

and Sciences at the University of Buffalo,

and her doctoral degree in rehab sciences

at the MGH Institute of Health Professions

in Boston, Massachusetts.

She completed her clinical fellowship in speech language pathology at the University of Wisconsin

Madison in an acute care setting.

Broadly, she's interested in how the brain controls the muscles of speech

and swallowing and the perceptual, acoustic, kinematic, and neurophysiological

consequences of neurodegenerative disease on these functions.

She has a particular interest in the measurement

of relevant clinical outcomes,

such as speech, intelligibility,

and improving therapeutic options

to improve the quality of life of patients with oral motor impairment.
