a Bosa Rich history dating back to its early settlement by European pioneers in the 1830s.

Baraboo was originally inhabited by various indigenous peoples, including the Ho-Chunk Nation.

The name Baraboo is believed to have originated

from the Ho-Chunk Nation term Baubeg,

which means the place of the yellow water lilies, referencing the nearby Baraboo River.

It had witnessed an influx of settlers that were drawn by its fertile lands and abundant natural resources.

Then in the mid-19th century, Baraboo experienced significant growth with the arrival of German, Irish, and Scandinavian immigrants who established

farms, businesses and industries.

One of the most prominent figures of Baraboo was Al Ringling, the Ringling Brothers Circus

founder, who along with his brothers turned what was then a small town into a circus empire hub.

Since then, Baraboo has blossomed into the largest city in Sock County, proudly claiming the title of County Seat.

On the muggy summer night of the 29th of July 1995, 13-year-old Thaddeus Phillips, affectionately known as Thad,

had drifted off on the couch at his family's home

on the county highway in Baraboo. In the haze of half-sleep

he suddenly became aware of somebody lifting him and

cradling him in their arms. Assuming that it was his father he allowed himself to

be carried and disappearing that he was going to be placed in his own bed.
