Hello and welcome to No Such Thing as a Fish, a weekly podcast coming to you from the

0:19.3

QI offices in Covert Garden. My name is Anadjanski, not Dan Shriver, and I am sitting here with

0:26.4

James Harkin, Andrew Hunter Murray and Anne Miller. Once again we've gathered around the microphones

0:31.1

with our four favourite facts from the last seven days and in no particular order here we go

0:36.0

starting with MyFacts which is Cockroaches can carry 900 times their own body weight on their backs.

0:44.1

Amazing. It's impressive isn't it? So what is 900 times bigger than a cockroach? 900 cockroaches.

0:50.8

Oh that's how it's called. Cockroach fire fighters must be very good indeed. I'll take everyone.

0:57.2

I've just got everything from your house don't worry about it. Well what the whole house?

1:01.4

Oh no it's still up fire. I worked out that that would mean that I would be able to carry the

1:07.2

biggest dinosaur that ever walked the earth which is Argentinosaurus. So if I was a cockroach.

1:13.1

That would look really impressive. If you were a cockroach as in as a human you would be able to.

1:16.8

If I was a human sized cockroach and the laws of physics didn't really apply to me but just

1:21.2

this one particular fact applied to me then I'd be able to carry that. Oh and if dinosaurs still

1:26.0

existed. There were a lot of bigifs in there but it's still impressive. So yeah this is I read this

1:31.9

in an article which was published by the science the journal science. The article is actually written

1:36.3

by someone called Elizabeth Penisi. This is a report on cockroaches and how they're basically

1:40.4

impossible to squash and it looked into why. So they're extremely flexible and extremely hard and

1:46.2

really good at lifting stuff and so they they work that out obviously by how you'd think they did

1:51.0

by putting heavier and heavier stuff on cockroaches back and seeing at what point they crushed.

1:56.9

But we haven't said there are 4,500 species of cockroach. So is this only one species of cockroach?

2:04.2

Oh it's a strong one. This was an American cockroach. Famously strong.

2:09.3

The gym yeah. Yeah exactly. Jock. Jockroach. I already think about how we had this image of
