Summary

Host Reed Galen is joined by psychotherapist, Nick Carmody. They discuss the psychological profile of Donald Trump, the allure of why the GOP has embraced Trumpism, and the reasoning behind the rise of grievance politics & perpetual victimhood. In 2010, Nick experienced two life-changing Traumatic Brain Injuries (eight months apart). The resulting changes in brain functioning, personality, and emotional processing (along with other intense personal experiences) created an obsession-like need to understand and confirm these experiences, and served as motivation to go back to school and work in the psychology field. story in just a minute, but here's a little bit about him to set the stage. Nick in 2010,

1:11.3

Thank you. I appreciate you having me.

1:13.4

Now Nick, one of the things that immediately drew me to you was your psychoanalysis of

1:17.9

Donald Trump, as well as your writings about the GOP and how it's transformed into this

1:22.2

psychophantic cult-like party that we're seeing, and obviously we've spent a lot of time

1:26.4

and effort on that. But before that, I want to get a little bit into your background.

1:30.2

So can you explain a little bit how does one have not only one traumatic brain injury,

1:35.5

but two, in less than a year?

1:38.3

What often happens after the first one is you're in a state of fogginess or haziness, and

1:42.1

so you're not necessarily sharp, you're not necessarily as loose as you normally are.
