On a warm summer's night in July 2001,

a 23-year-old Austrian medical student logged on to his computer.

He loved surfing the internet and could not imagine that only a decade before, the World

Wide Web did not exist.

What Reinhold really liked was finding dark and macabre images or video clips.

And that Monday night was no different. He typed the words horror and nervous thrills into the search bar and waited to see what was out there.

Among the results, one website caught his eye, Cannibal Cafe.

Reinhold logged onto the website and saw threads upon threads

and forums about the consumption of human flesh.

This was great, he thought, with a feeling of repulsion and intrigue.

His eyes widened as he read some of the conversations.

Some long to butcher people. Others were eager to be conversations. nothing else. It was dark and grim, but surely it was only role play.

Perhaps even a sexual fetish, although he had never heard of cannibalism being erotic.

He saw one advertisement that cut to the chase, someone using the nickname Frankie posted.

Hi, are you between the ages of 18 and 30 years old with an average build, and would you like to be butchered?
