I stuck up on him and shot him.

Berkowitz planned to use the revolver again and again until he felt police were getting

close.

I wanted to help people, I wanted to be for somebody, but instead.

David Berkowitz, 24 years old, found himself surrounded by police.

Well, he said, you got him.

Police say those words ended the biggest man hunt in New York City history.
