Summary

The First World War shattered a generation of Europeans. Killing took place on a monumental scale, as whole societies gave their all for their countries. German men who spent their young adulthood in the murderous trenches of the Great War, only to be crushed under the weight of a hostile world, would be senior officers in Hitler’s Wehrmacht, while their sons prepared for a rematch as young soldiers, sailors, and airmen. The harrowing experience of the First World War forged the men who fought the Second World War, so our story starts with that experience. The Martyr Made Podcast is a 100% listener-supported operation. This is Daryl Cooper, back at long last with a new episode of the Martyr Made podcast.

And I know, I know.

0:17.4

It's been a long time.

0:20.0

And all I can say for now is that it's just been a tough year.

0:24.8

I'll tell my subscribers more about it another time, but it's just been a long year.

On top of some personal trials, one of the things I've realized over this last year is that I've just really

0:40.1

truly had enough of politics. I mean, I'm still going to vote and I'm sure people

0:46.6

will ask me my opinion on something and I'll bloviate about it, but I just spent way

0:50.9

too much time this year accepting interview requests to talk about the

0:54.5

day's news in Gaza or Ukraine or Washington, D.C.

0:58.3

And all it's done is exhaust me and distract me from the only thing that I'm actually good at.

1:05.3

And from the only people I actually work for, which is you.

1:12.0

Well, that is over.

1:14.2

That is over.

1:15.3

I am not going to let anything distract me anymore from this history podcast and from

1:21.7

the substack content I create for subscribers.

1:25.3

I want to make this series the best series that I can.

1:31.0

And so I feel bad panhandling, given the way that I've already abused my subscribers'

1:35.7

patience this year.

1:37.6

But I love my cat more than I love my honor, and my cat needs to eat.

1:43.7

I don't accept advertisers for this show.
