Coming up, the Speaker reveals his role in Peter Mandelson's arrest.

In a prickly Prime Minister's questions,

Kemi Badenok demands action on student loans.

I believe the student loans have become a debt trap. But Keir Stammer blames

the Conservatives for student debt levels. I believe the opposition has finally admitted that they

scammed the country on this. Also tonight, warnings about the impact of new passport rules on

dual nationals, including babies.

Under this current policy, they face being turned away or separated from their mothers upon arrival.

But first, at the very start of Commons business, the speaker, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, got up to make a statement of his own,

confirming that he had passed information to the police,

suggesting that Peter Mandelson could be a flight risk. Lord Mandelson was arrested and taken in for

questioning on Monday as part of the investigation into misconduct in public office. His lawyers

complained saying Lord Mandelson had already agreed to a police interview next month

and the suggestion that he was about to go abroad was baseless.

Following media reports naming Sir Lindsay Hoyle, the speaker explained his involvement to MPs.

Members will be aware of comments in the media regarding the arrest of Lord Mandelson.
