Summary

Retired agent Masayo Halpin reviews the case of a 14-year-old girl, who, through manipulation and daily beatings, was forced into sex work. Although initially reluctant to cooperate with law enforcement, Lucy (not her real name) stayed in contact with Masayo with and after five years was finally ready to testify against her trafficker.

Masayo served as a Crimes Against Children Coordinator and created the Portland Innocence Lost Task Force, now known as the Child Exploitation Task Force. She served in the FBI for twenty years.

0:38.8	she was on a violent crime squad working human sex trafficking cases.
0:44.8	In this episode, Messiah refused the case of a 14-year-old girl who was
0:50.4	trafficked by Tony Armstrong, also known as Priceless, who threw manipulation and daily
0:58.3	beatings forced her into sex work. Although initially reluctant to cooperate with law enforcement,
1:05.6	Lucy, not her real name, stayed in contact with Messiah, and after five years was finally ready
1:13.6	to testify against Armstrong. Messiah served as the Primes Against Children Coordinator in Portland
1:21.4	and created the Portland Innocence Lost Task Force, now known as the Child Exploitation Task Force,
1:29.2	comprised of four local law enforcement agencies and the FBI. They investigate cases involving
1:36.7	the commercial sexual exploitation of children. Since retiring from the Bureau,
1:42.8	Messiah is beginning a new career as a community college instructor teaching courses on ethics
1:49.9	and human trafficking. She's also working with an author on her memoir about her big undercover
1:56.9	case and childhood events that no doubt played a role in her FBI career choices. As I mentioned
2:05.0	during the interview, January is human trafficking awareness month, so I'm really pleased to bring
2:11.2	this timely interview to you. Messiah and I discuss sexual exploitation, physical abuse, and rape,
