Hey everyone and welcome back to Big Mad True Crime where we get Big Mad over True Crime.

I'm your host Heather Ashley and today's case is out of Long Island, New York.

Small talk sucks, so let's dive in. On January 17th, 2020, at around 940 AM. New York police officer Michael Valva wasn't the one responding to an emergency. He was the one who called.

Michael told the 911 dispatcher that his 8 year old son Tommy had fallen in the driveway and banged his head.

He said he picked Tommy up and put him into a warm shower, but he had stopped breathing.

Michael told the dispatcher that he was doing CPR,

but it looked like Tommy's belly was filling up with air

and he wasn't responding to anything.

There was clearly no time to waste here so emergency responders rushed to the scene as fast as they could.

According to court documents, when first responders arrived, they found Tommy and Michael in the basement.

Tommy had no pulse and was cold to the touch.

Medics took over CPR, but as hard as they tried, they couldn't revive him.

An officer carried Tommy to an ambulance where CPR continued as they made their way to the hospital

with Michael following closely behind.

Unfortunately, no matter what the paramedics did, Tommy was completely unresponsive.

At 10.20 a.m. he was officially declared dead.

Shortly after Tommy was rushed to the hospital,

a Suffolk County Police Sergeant went to the Valva House to talk to Michael's

fiance, Angela Polina.

Angela explained what happened that morning, telling the sergeant that Tommy and Michael were outside waiting for the school bus when Tommy fell.

Michael brought Tommy back inside through the garage noting that Tommy was crying excessively,

but according to Angela, this was common for Tommy who was autistic.
